    wireless internet.

    Hi all.

I have just purchased a new PC.
I have also purchased a 108Mbps RangeMax ADSL modem wireless router, and a Rangemax wireless USB 2.0 adapter.
I am currently on the Internet with BT, but before I disconnect and dispose of this puter I need to get the new one on the Internet.
    What do I do?
    Please someone help.
There are no instructions in the wireless boxes, so I have no idea.

    Yours most desperate, Gary.

    Take a look at this.

    In general, you need:

To know the IP address of your DSL modem. This will be used as GATEWAY address in the new router.

DHCP in all system componets have to be enabled.

DSL modem's WAN connects to new Router's WAN

At the beggining plug the new computer into the router and make it work that way, before you attempt to use your wireless adapter. The biggest problems is going to be with IP addresses.

    Thanks for replying joeofeg.

Before I start, I would like to make it clear that I am currently on the Internet with my old PC, and before I disconnect, and dispose of it I want to get the new PC set up and ready for the Internet.

Do I have to load the BT disk onto the new PC before I do anything else? or should I load the router disk, and the adapter disk first?

You have a working situation now. So, the first thing I would do is to add the router to existing system and make it work for the old computer. If problems come up with router configuration, since you are making only one change it will be eaiser to trouble shoot. After the new router is working, then I would add new PC. With the new router working, both computer should be able to talk to it. Keep in mind it may become necessary to plug in your new computer direclty to the router before you use it wirelessly. Making one change at a time and going thru that make things a lot easier than if all of a sudden you change everything at the same time. But in your case, normally most problems would be associated with not having the right IP address and gateway address put in. If I were your, I would not totally remove the old computer, untill the new one is working.
    Good luck

If you do as suggested, and get router/modem installed first, you probably won't need the BT disk, as its normally for there own modem.

When I connected my new Belkin modem /router somewhile ago, it picked the settings from the incomind ASDL line so I didn't have to do anything else

Well here I am. On the new PC, thanks to the help of you all, and half of India.

    Now for the next phase.
How do I connect my E-mail? Do I just copy the information that is in "Internet Options" on my old PC into the "Internet Options" on my new PC?

    ATB Gary.
