advice on increasing memory on Compaq S3150UK
I am hoping to put off the inevitable need to replace my COMPAQ S3150UK by fitting more memory. Presently I have 256MB DDR-SDRAM. The processor is an Athlon 2200+ (1.8GHz). The problem I'm hoping the extra memory will reduce is the slowing down of the machine when multi-tasking (e.g. Recording streaming audio with Total Recorder, or processing audio with DB PowerAmp in the background while using other applications) I would appreciate some advice a) to confirm that more memory will help and b) to make sure I buy the right sort of memory.
Also I'm considering getting an external DVD writer, this would be to make copies of DVD-R discs I have produced in a Toshiba RD-XS30 HDD/DVD Recorder. Can someone confirm that an external DVD writer could do this before I spend my money.

Are you using XP? If so definitely up the RAM. I would max it out but the quick spec does not show the limit. Rather than continue with the old stick you might consider two new ones. A matched pair. This would give the best performance.
Your Computer
Here is a RAM scanner and upgrade adviser.
As to the DVD question I would say if your computer can read these disks there should be no problem with burning them. Assuming you have the proper burning software.

Thanks for taking the time....
I'm now trying to identify the right parts. I want to fit two 512mb sticks, I reckon that will be fine until I can afford a new PC.
The Kingston website gives me the part number KTC-D320/512 and these are availabe at around £40-45. This is Kingston Branded memory whereas I see a lot of Kingston Valueram for sale at about 60% of the price. How can I identify the right Valueram part for my PC?
