    RAM or GRAPHICS CARD??

    Hi,

    My current system is:

    AMD 64 X2 4200+
    512mb Ram
Onboard UniChrome Direct X 9 (I can give it upto 256mb from system ram)

So my question is am I better off buying more RAM and then giving the onboard the full 256mb it can use or leaving the RAM as is and getting a PCI-E graphics card? Which will improve my system most?

    Thanks

PS If its a graphics card can you recommend a decent low-mid priced one.

What is the motherboard and operating system?

What do you want the computer to do?

    High end gaming? etc.?

I will probably say yes to both. More RAM plus a PCI_E card.

    Motherboard is ASUS M2V-MX
    Operating System is WinXP PRO

Not really high end gaming just would like to be able to play whatever takes my fancy. Want to at least be able to run stuff at playable level don't want to spend a ton of money as it will just be obselete in 6 months

Being able to give the on-board 256MB RAM is impressive but I still doubt that on-board graphics can run most of the current high end products not to mention the future.

I would say a system today should have at least 1GB of RAM just for the computer.

Since you have the PCI_E slot I would use it. That would be a vast improvement and you can get basic PCI_E cards from $100 USD and up.

I would get a matching stick of 512MB RAM and a PCI_E card.
