    Question Custom PC Lagging

Hey I built my new computer a few months ago, and ever since I first booted it up Ive noticed it keeps lagging, and lately its getting quite extreme. To the point where just opening a window takes 5 minutes (Slight Exageration Maybe). Even so its still stupidly annoying and i need to sort it.

Ok so a bit about my hardware setup:
Motherboard: Asus A8V-E SE Socket 939
Processor: AMD Athlon 3800+ 64 Socket 939, With Heatsink & Fan.
HDD: 80GB Sata Raid (Unsure of manufacturer)
Graphics: 512MB NVidia Geforce 7600GS PCIEx
    RAM: 1024MB Crucial DDR 3200

Now when i installed windows XP Home on my SATA HDD i didnt actually install any Raid drivers, In my Bios I setup my Sata function to IDE instead of Raid, im not sure if this could be causing the problem or not.

Also im still using the PSU that came with my case, which im guessing is around 300watts, could this be causing my lagging ?

I have checked all the fans on my case and they are all working correctly and totally dust free, so im pretty sure it has nothing to do with those.

If anyone could shed any light on this matter i would be very appreciative.

    Thankyou, Chris.

Define "lagging" - as in slow for anything to pop up, or is the animation jerky? How long do these lags last?

Is your CPU running full speed? Right click on My Computer > Properties > General, or download and run CPUz.

Assuming your temps are good, and you properly mounted the CPU, and your system is not infested with malware, my guess is your PSU can't handle that video card. You are chucking watered down gas into sports car.

Your HD settings should not affect that - if you are not using RAID, then you would not set that to RAID. IDE is a bit confusing, but I think that is correct as often the terms EIDE, IDE, and ATA are used interchangeably.
