Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to help/read a newbie's problem! I know I am new to the forums and many forums don't welcome newbie's but I am hoping to find a good community here.
Now, I have built several computers before, but never with a dual core pc, nor an ECS Mobo.
I have an
AMD X2 4600
ECS NFORCE4M-A
Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667
ATI x1600 Pro PCI-E
Now all my optical drives and hard drives are running but I am getting no display on the screen. Unless it is my Video Card, I don't see a problem.
Please advise what could be the problem, I am thinking it could be a memory compatibility issue, but I am not sure.
I have researched here...
http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=20656
However, I do have the 4 pin connector connected and I still have nothing on the display.
Thanks for the help!
Does the computer appear to start and run OK aside from no monitor?
Do you get the monitor signal: No Signal Input?
Do you have the RAM in odd slots e.g. 0&2 or 1&3 (not next to each other).
If that board has 2 PCI_E slots are you in the upper one?
Try reseating everything and go again. Perhaps only use one stick of RAM to start/test.
Thanks for the reply, the monitor does not get the "No Signal Input"
The slots are the corresponding slots, right next to each other, and the board only has 1 PCI-E slot for the PCI-E Video card.
Please advise, its been awhile since I worked on this PC.
If there are four RAM slots you should be in alternating slots: 0&2 or 1&3
Is the monitor getting power? Does the LED go on? Is it amber? Green?
Doh', I didn't realize they are suppose to alternate... I thought they were color coded the same for a reason...?
The monitor shows green and it flashes.
I won't be able to test this till tommorow or perhaps Saturday. T_T
Most new boards are set up for dual channel so with two sticks you need to use every other slot. That might be the whole issue as your monitor appears to be getting the proper power.
I just switched it and finally tested it. But no dice, it doesn't seem to get the PC to display anything.
What could be the problem? I hope nothing is defective, its been way past store return policies. >_>
I wish I had a spare video card, perhaps if nothing else I'll remove this one and test it...
Does the monitor LED ever switch from orange/amber to green?
If so you would get a No Signal Input message.
Or even a DVI or VGA connection error.
Is this monitor set up as DVI? If yes can you convert it to VGA?
This can be an issue until Windows is installed and DVI drivers loaded.
Also if none of the above helps try removing all the RAM and boot.
You should get a constant series of BEEP BEEP BEEPs --->>> Yes?
Thank you for the continued help and support.
The LED on the monitor never did switch colors, no "No signal Connection" error.
I used it as a VGA connection so there should have been no problems. I won't be able to access the computer for a few days.
What do you reccomend doing whether or not the pc makes the BEEPs or not?
A prolonged monologue where a dialog is needed is sort of in vain.
Trying to say we are at a point of: try A: if not try B: if not try C: etc.
It is very difficult to try and draw it out if each step is not confirmed or denied.
I can say that even if a system totally failed and if the monitor and power supply work you should get a monitor signal to at least says it is getting No Signal Input.
In your case your monitor is getting no input from anywhere. Again this can occur with DVI connections prior to the proper drivers being installed but should not be an issue with VGA connections.
Even if the RAM were bad and all else were well you would get a brief green light on the monitor and an error that says: No Signal Input.
If you do not even get that then either monitor and or the graphics card is the suspect.
The card would be more suspect than the monitor. Do you have another computer to try each on?
