Thank you for the fast response, I now have another question.

I went to the URL you said and did the advisor tool,now... It says my computer has 3 slots and each one supports 128MB of RAM

But my computer has one slot used with 256MB RAM since I bought it... is there something wrong?

I have checked out the Compaq Presario 5630 on the Crucial web site and they appear to have made a mistake as they have also said that it runs on SDRAM, which it shouldn't. Your PC has a 400MHz front side bus, which means that it should support DDR400 memory. This is a pretty modern standard and, on that basis, the slots ought to support at least 512MB each.

I think that Crucial might have made the mistake because the time that your PC was built was exactly the time at which manufacturers moved from SDRAM to DDR RAM. Maybe the Presario 5630 came with two different motherboard options - one supporting slower processors and SDRAM and another supporting faster processors and DDR RAM.
