technically you just switch the processor. make sure you get the old Pentium 4 series. the old chipset and not the new 64bit 915 chipsets.

however, in my honest opinion, i would recommend you to hold on to that celeron for maybe another 2 months or so, and then do a thorough change. as the old processors are practically worthless, and Intel has just launched their Intel Quad Core processors. you might as well change it all in one go and use it for another 2 years or so.

rather than changing the processor now, and end up changing more and more often just to keep it running decently.

no no no. Older Pentium 4 and Newer ones have different chipsets, meaning the amount of pins and design is slightly different. chipsets are built in.

i'm no good at searching for faqs, but here's a Wiki.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_socket

now read the top for some basic idea, and scroll down and you'll see alot of types of sockets. What you probably want is a Socket T processor and motherboard. which is currently the newest.

but well, i do believe that AMD is better, however also more expensive.

just be sure to check what your motherboard socket is, and what processor it can support. or if you can find out precisely what your processor is, you can check it from that wiki page i just posted, and determine what socket and what processor it can most probably support.

still, best is hold on for a short while. unless you don't mind the price value of your processor to drop drastically. especially Intel processors. their value drops real fast.

Yes. Purchase what is said in the manual as compatible CPU and your in. You'll have to redo the Thermal Paste though.

Chipset refers to the North bridge and South bridge on the motherboard, which is not changeable but comes soldered on the motherboard.

Nothing to worry about on that side as Kaistar said
