    Upgrade compatibility

    Hi,
I have a very old compaq presario 5WV280 and have already changed the graphics card, CPU and added some more memory. My problems began when I tried to change the mobo.
I wanted to put a Chaintech 7AIA5 in there but found that the front panel power switch from the case appeared incompatible with the socket on the board.

Also, the ribbon from the floppy drive has a connector which has a blanked off hole where a pin on the IDE wants to go!

Should I just buy a new ribbon?

What to do about the power switch?

All suggestions and any help appreciated.

    Many Thanks

I'd suggest getting a new case as they are relatively inexpensive.

Very older cases had a different type of power switch connection.

As to the floppy drive: the motherboard will have a specific floppy connection. These are not IDE ports but Floppy ports.

Your floppy port is the black one to the right of the IDE ports.

    Thanks for your reply,

The case is 6 1/2 years old so maybe a replacement is due. How difficult is it to move everything into the new case?

Sorry, I meant the floppy port although the ribbon still won't fit.

It's no harder than everything that you've already done. The new case will usually come with the power supply already fitted. You can then fit your new motherboard and swap out the drives, processor, RAM and AGP / PCI cards. Allow an hour if you haven't done it before but an experienced system builder can swap a case out in about 15-20 minutes.
