Add a 2nd HD to a Dell Dimension 2400
I bought a new hard drive to install in a Dell Dimension 2400. I want to keep the originall hard drive intact. When I opened the case to install, I realized there are no rails to mount this new drive to. The original drive is mounted vertically in the front of the case, it appears to have slots or holes for mounting an additional hard drive. Does anyone know where I can get the necessary hardware to mount this second drive. if not I am going to return it and purchase an External drive. I was hoping to conserve desktop space though. Thanks in advance for any info.

The 2400 has no room for a second hard drive.
There is an open 5.25" drive bay for an additional DVD/CD drive.
If you are mechanically inclined I am sure that you cold rig up some method of installing the 3.5" hard drive into the 5.25" bay. Perhaps just screw it to one side.

You can add a second drive to the 2400, I just built my wife one and I purchased a hard drive bracket off of ebay. It basically hooks into the two slots on the original bracket; you have one screw that holds the bracket to the board( not the three that holds the hard drive to the bracket itself). For better references check out this link: http://support.dell.com/support/edoc..._en/drives.htm

Yes, the 2400 CAN support another HDD, but you need to take out another drive such as the CD player (it wont matter as long as you get a CD/DVD player/reader/writer combo and install that in place, thus eliminating the need for 2 CD/DVD drives by compacting them into one. The empty slot can them be used/manipulated to make arrangements for the second HDD
