i have a biostar m7vig-pro motherboard. the biostar website lists the athlon xp 2600+ 133fsb as the fastest compatible cpu. i bought and installed a used AMD ATHLON 2600 XP BARTON SOCKET A CPU DKV3C 2.083Mhz. with the 2600 installed the computer will sometimes go thru the basic post routine, bios flash screen, video card info, ect.. but fails to begin booting windows, just starts posting again. should this cpu work with this motherboard? did i get a defective chip or am i missing something? any advice would be great.
i am including a summery of the computer.
CPU Type: new AMD ATHLON 2600 XP BARTON SOCKET A CPU DKV3C
CPU Type: old AMD Athlon XP, 1050 MHz (10.5 x 100)
Motherboard Name: Biostar M7VIG (Pro)
Motherboard Chipset: VIA VT8375 ProSavageDDR KM266
System Memory : 768 MB (PC133 SDRAM)
BIOS Type: Award (08/06/02)
i havn't updated the bios, but i'll do that tonight.
i'll have to try that cpu again to see about the hard drive, i think it did detect. i dont get any error message about boot failure before it restarts. i use xp corp sp2. i'm attaching a complete summery.
thanks
