    Im using 2 x 512MB ram stick (different brands) is that bad?

    Im using 2x 512MB in my computer i just grabbed one from my brothers stuffed up one. Is this bad? Why? What are the risks? How much does a 512MB cost?

    It is best not to mix brands but if there is no apparent problem then it should be fine.

    RAM prices depend not only on MB size but speed as well as several other factors.

    As in everything you pretty much get what you pay for.

    grampa built the comptuer so its techncally not a brand, well if theres no apparant problems i should be fine, anywhere from 50 to 100 dollars pricing, better risk it with the salvaged one, was just wondering if it would blow my comp up or anything thanks

    Hi gog. Thanks for the reply to my thread, I fully understand your position and it wasn't you I thought was swaying decency by not replying. There are many people that do know quite a lot though.

    As Jephree said many times you can't have any problems with two different brands. The cost of a 512MB, depending on what sort it is, and the manufacturer, retailer differs. A friend of mine purchased a Kingston 1GB DIMM DDR2SDRAM module for £35 from ebay recently. We tested it and it works perfect and in untouched condition. So I guess you can get cheap buys if you look around wwith patience.

    thx bro, had to take out the other stick anyyway while dad uses the other comp, internets back after many dificulties with my provider.

    wait are you saying you plug it in and pull it out quite often? that's kinda... risky. lol.
