Installing a second HDD
can any one please help me i'm tryin to gather information on installing a second HDD in my system, I have an ASUS AN8 SLI mainboard with a SATA WD 150gb HDD and i would like to install a SATA MAXTOR Maxline plus11 250gb as a second drive so i can free up some space on my first drive just use the second drive for storage and the first to operate my system.i have looked into it my self but i find the minefield of the information super highway to difficult to navigate (NOOB), Can any one give the info i need and any issues i need to be aware of a link to a good site with step by step instructions perhaps so far iv'e discoverd that u don't have to set any jumpers on the drives as SATA does this for you (is that true?), the reason i have lost my way abit is because my HDD drive hasn't got a wide IDE cable attatched it's got a very thin cable goin into one of the four SATA ports on my mainboard and i am used to using an IDE with the 3 connections so now i'm lost, Any help would be greatly apreciated THankx.

SATA drives have no jumpers as there is only one drive per channel.
All you need to do is plug the drive into the SATA 2 port on the motherboard.
After the next boot go to Disk Management and right click the drive and choose Format.
It should be as simple as that.
Disk Management = Right click My Computer then click Properties then Manage then Disk Management.

I can see why SATA can be a bit daunting when you're used to IDE - I was a bit anxious when doing my first SATA upgrade as well. But, if you follow Jephree's steps, you'll be surprised at how easy it is
