    combining two cpu's???

Hi, there! I have two CPU's. One is a put together built on an old Dell which runs Windows XP and has an 80 gig hard drive. It is a Pentium II with 128 mg RAM. The other computer is a Compaq Presario Pentium III with 128 mg RAM and a 60 gig hard drive. It runs on Windows ME. It also has a CR-RW.
The CD-RW and the Pentium III have started me thinking that my Windows XP and Office XP would run so much better if the other computer (the DEll) were a Pentium III. And so, to my question: is there any way to merge these two CPU's and what would be the end result if it could be done?
If this can be done, how would I do it? In words of one syllable or less, please!!!

    Thanks.

First off we need to know the ID of the motherboards.

This little app can show this plus more:

    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

If both these boards are slot 1's then the PIII could be moved to the other board assuming that the BIOS supports it.

Beyound that XP really needs a minimum of 256MB RAM. Again with the motherboard ID we can check out the possibilities.

    Dear Jephree:

It took a little while, but I finally ran cpuz on both computers. I have sent you the two reports via e-mail because I simply could not figure out any other way to do it. I have saved both of them so if there is another way you want me to transmit them, please let me know. Awaiting your response, Carol

I have no e-mail listed here so I don't know where it went

You could add the file as an attachment to your next post but we really only need this to start with:

    Motherboard:

    Manufacturer

    Model

    Mainboard

    In CPU-Z > Mainboard > Motherboard > Manufacturer > Model

I must be a real pain but here goes:

The Pentium II has no motherboard or model #.

The Pentium III motherboard manufacturer is Compaq and the model is 06COh, NONE.

Hope that this is what you need!

Well the Compaq 06COh is a socket 370 at least we know that.

Try this scan on the PII: http://www.d-a-l.com/hardware-scan.php

Just post back the motherboard info if it comes up.

You should be able to combine both RAM sticks in one computer and or purchase more RAM. The 06COh can be upgraded to 512MB max. Having at least 256MB would be much better than what you have currently.

If we can ID the other motherboard then we can see if the CPU's are interchangeable.

At this point I would recommend adding the RAM to the PIII board and installing XP on that machine.

This is assuming that you have a Microsoft XP CD. Or was XP installed by Compaq or Dell?

Unfortunately, XP was installed by "The Man in the Moon." In other words, I have no clue how it got into this 1998 computer. Is there any way to transfer it from PII to PIII? Also how would the motherboard info show up later? I mean, where can I look for it?

Forgive my stupidity! I neglected to read the entire last post you sent. I ran the D-A-L scan and, once more, there is NO MOTHERBOARD!!!! Is that really possible??? I always thought you have to have a motherboard and a hard drive. What's up with this???
