    Getting a computer

    Hello guys

I am a complete newbie to this site, so forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place....I am looking to purchase a Destop PC for my family. Please bear in mind I know nothing about computers

Where should I buy from...a PC Store or from the web or somewhere else?

What brands should I avoid?- i need a computer that will last

I want it to be fast...I have been seeing AMD and Intel- which one is better...Is a Intel Pentium D good?.

What does the cache mean? does it have any significance.

    My budget is about £600
I just want a good, fast and nice looking PC. Also will need a printer and scanner...

    Any ideas......

    Cheers
