installing graphics card
I recently got a ati radeon 9800 pro 128. I followed the instructions for installation, removed my nvidia driver, and fx5200. Then I installed the 9800 pro, 12v power too, turned on my computer, and the monitor stays on standby, but the computer boots up, and the fan on the pro is spinning? Is there something im not doing right?
comp specs:
dell 4600 dimension (250 watt psu)
Intel 865PE chipset

Do you have an on-board VGA port? I see the 4600 has that possibility:

If so boot off the on-board VGA port and check your BIOS settings. There should be a choice to run on-board or from the AGP.
If not first try re-seating the card. Also perhaps try another monitor.
If none of the above try reinstalling your old card. Does that work?

Thanks for the reply, I had a look through my bios, and it was set to AGP as primary default, and my 4600 does not have onboard video. It has always had an FX 5200 which i am using now and works perfectly.
I even thought that there maybe a power issue, so i disabled both dvd, and cd drives, and still the screen stayed on standby. I borrowed a monitor and still it stayed on standby too.
I am begining to believe that i have a faulty card with either two issues: power supply is some how not connected(or my psu cant handle it, which i find unlikely to be the cause), or the VGA port is faulty. I may try a dvi to VGA adapter, to determine this. I am also going to try it in a friends rig later on this week. I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.
