im unable to fit a xfx geforce 7300GS into a dell dimension 4550 my default graphics card was a nvidia geforce mx 450 which has 3 pins my new 1 has 2 and pin is very long in width can somebody solve this
-
are you sure your not trying to go from a AGP to a PCI-e
-
-
yh maybe the new graphics card is agp my mother board is pci
why wony xfx geforce7300 fit on my pci dell dimension 4550
-
-
There are 3 types of slots for graphics cards.
PCI
AGP
PCI_E
An AGP card will not fit into a PCI slot. The AGP slot is considerably longer.
PCI_E is the latest format and that slot is smaller than either PCI or AGP.
Basically if you only have PCI slots you need to get a PCI card.

so what sort of card is a xfx geforce 7300GS nvidia
a Nvidia geforce 450 must be a Pci then or pci e
?? dunno
-
i think my current 1 can only have agp

OK ... thanks for the links.
Your old card is an AGP 3.3V Graphics Card 2X
This is a very old format. The most you can do here is use an AGP 2X/4X and you can only do this if your slot is an Universal AGP slot. An Universal AGP slot will be an open slot whereas an AGP 3.3V (2X) slot will be divided into two sections that match the pin layout of your old card. If this is the case then you are limited to AGP 3.3V 2X Graphics Cards. In other words you cannot really upgrade on this motherboard.
That card you bought is a PCI_E or PCI Express. It is the latest format and requires a motherboard that supports PCI_E.
More details can be seen here as to the various AGP slots:

Under Product Information click this:

If you have an Universal AGP slot then you could upgrade to a 2X/4X but I doubt that it would be of any substantial difference to what you have now.
