fitting graphics card

Re: fitting graphics card
Hello Yuj,
There are tweeks you can make within your OS that might improve things for you overall.
Take the advise being given you, your motherboard, your PC is pretty much beyond doin' anything with.
Dell PCs are difficult to upgrade.
I suspect you might be considering buying a new motherboard and installing it in your Dell, don't bother, you can't, your case won't allow it.
As I have already wrote, if your Dell works, leave it alone, it's a good machine of its time.
Sometime in the future consider a new PC, look through the PC Mart mag's there are some great new/used PC deals to be had, depending on your requirements.

should i buy something like alienware or the dell XPS??
-
Hello Yuj,
If I only had a choice between those two brands, Hm----Dell based simply on reliability.
For value, futureproofing, upgradeability and pleasing to look at, practicaly any other damn make of PC on the planet including Alianware
There are bargins to be had out there, might I suggest you hold back and wait 'till Vista appears then build/buy your machine.
You don't need to spend money on brands to get what you want, having said that, some of the brand names are offering good gaming spec's, some with win xp home CD & licence thrown in.
I saw one PCI-E gaming machine with 17in LCD £345inc.

Hello Yui,
When I read your last thread I smiled, were you really hoping to play a game like FEAR on your old Dell.
Time for some direct questions.
Do you wish to buy or build your machine?
What is your existing OS, if it's XP Home do you have it on CD with licence?
What is your budget, (buy or build), for your New PC?

- im willing to build
-my current OS is xp proffesional and it has a cd with licence
-i dont have a budget BUT just tell me the prices

Hello Yuj,
As budget is not your concern,
Allow £85/95 for case, ( or less), depending on taste to include a deacent PSU, ( 550w min), something from the Seasonic brand series, ( nice and quite ), but there are other silent brands, I think I read somewhere that Novatech do their own PSU that has the same internals as the Seasonics.
Cooling, you need to make that choice, water cooled or fan but it's important to get this right. Micro Mart wrote a good piece on this subject a couple of issues ago, get hold of a copy, it will tell you all you need to know.
Motherboard--Hm---My choice for you would be a Asus A8N32-SLI Delux N Force SLi x16 939 £ 137-00 but can be had for £123-00.
CPU as a minimum Athlon 64x2 D.C. 3800+ £210 but if your luck holds can be had for £185.
Go for AMD brand, IMHO their CPUs run cooler.
Memory, altho' as yet no games need this much allow for 2 GB at £50-00 each per 1 GB but again depending on brand can be had for as little as £38-00.
Sata hard drives 250GB around £65-00
Graphic Card---Hm--- that's a mine field-- 256mb -- £100 upwards.
Sound card or on board, your choice, onboard sound is pretty good nowadays altho' I have always used a card, allow £40-00.
Dual Layer drives from £30-00 onwards, I bought new 4 x Plextor PX 716SA drives the other day for £45-00 each all in---yes.
Yuj you can proberly beat some of the above on prices and have, if not fun, the satifaction of builiding your own PC and learning from it.
If all the above seems like to much hard work take a look a www.monkeyware.co.uk they do their Practical gaming machine for about £700 or www.arbico.co.uk see what they can do for you.
To put things in perspective take a look at monkeyware again, at their ubermonkey MK 11
an absolute stonking machine and I've seen two in action--excellent, excellent machines.
They cost around £4000-00 and for good reason, however I have just priced and order for three machines of acactly the same performance for £2,213.
The cases we will be using are the Nitro AX range from www.pcicase.co.uk, superb cases, pay them a visit.
