    What graphics card

    Hi all

Stupid question for you all, from a non techie

How can I find out what type of graphic card will fit into my pc, been looking and they all have different slot types

Ok bit more info, went to curcial and did a scan, they came up with an AGP Card radeon 9600 se, 9250, x800 gto, x800 pro, are these the only 4 i can put in or are they the only ones crucial sell.
Is there much diffo between the 9600 se, to the pro or xt that they wont fit ?, is the 9800 and inbetween model of the 9600 and x800 if so why cant i fit that

You will find three slot types. Very old PC's will only have PCI. Most will have AGP. The latest is PCI_X.

As to AGP any AGP card will fit in an AGP slot. The main issue would be the speed. AGP come as AGPx2 (old) AGPx4 or AGPx8. Most contemporary boards support AGP 4X 8X. If the board can only support 4X an 8X card will run as 4X (backward compatible). The only other issue here might be a voltage issue.

The best way to sort all this is to ID your motherboard.

Post back the results of this scan in order to do so:

Those three slot types were major stepping stones for graphics interfaces.

You have: One AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) 2X/4X slot.

Although this is an older AGP version it still way surpasses any PCI card.

Although yes you can use a PCI card.

As I mentioned the state of art today is PCI_E.

Unfortunately that scan, although pointing out the computer manufacturer, eveshamvale, did not specify the exact motherboard. If you still want this info try this other scan:

    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

What is listed under Main Circuit Board?

You should be able to run almost any AGP 4X/8X with the question again being voltage.

An 8X will run as a 4X on your board as that is the max rate for your board.

    Hi Jephree

Did the scan this is all that is under that title

    Board: eveshamvale
    Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
    BIOS: Phoenix Technologies,
    LTD 6.00 PG 07/09/2003

thanks for all the help your giving me, i did post the mother board specs with the other scan

Ok think i did ask this at the beginning as well on the graphics card it self there are different type of fittigs, i.e some have 3 little gold strip prongs, and others have a 2 prong fitting one large, one small, does it matter which one u get

There are only 3 types of slots and cards: PCI > AGP > PCI_E

You need either a PCI or AGP as you do not have PCI_E slots.

If you are buying new get an AGP as they are much faster than PCI.

If you are being offered a free PCI then that is fine.

You will also note the memory size: 64 or 128 or 256. The more the better but also the more expensive. Also you want an 8X/4X which will run at 4X as that is your boards max rate.

Go into your system information options and look for your mother board type and corresponding letters and numbers,or if you will, open the case and use a external light to locate same information and or simply look at the graphics cards slot and deermine the tpe.You are better to know all numbers and name of board so you can lok at a card and thenmatch it at the card site or onl;ine at a page such as (grahics cards and related peripherals),etc.
