    Computer won't turn on

Alright, I'm not sure what forum this topic belongs to but my computer will not turn on. When I got up this morning my comp was making a funny noise. I shut it off and checked it out. (I think the noise was coming from a fan on the front of the comp that seems to have gone out). Anyway when I tried to turn the comp back on it only turns on for about .5 a second and then shuts off. I unhooked everything in the computer and it does the same thing. I also tried using a power supply from a deiiferent comp and get the same thing. I also tested th epower supply in another comp and it works so the power supply is fine.

Is it possiblt that I fried something on the mother board? I have no idea what to do.

    PLEASE HELP

OK, it may be the power supply, though I'm a little confused. I took a power supply from an old comp(300 watt) and hooked it up without anything else and it will turn on the comp only if I leave the 12V connector unhooked. If I plug in the 12V it wont turn on. The original power supply(420 watt) will not turn on the computer, it will only turn on for .5 sec, but when I hooked up the 420 watt to an onld computer it will turn on that computer, however that comp does not have a 12V hookup on the motherboard so I dont know if that is the problem. Also, the 420 watt PS fan does not come on.

I went and bought a new power supply (450 watt) and tested it and seemed to work so I hooked up everything and tried it again and resistors on my mother board started on fire, it fried at least 2 of them so I guess im gonna need a new MB now. Not sure why they would start on fire like that. This friggin sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry we haven't been of any help here but thanks for the updates.

    It really caught FIRE? Wow!

I don't have an answer for you but just wanted to let you know I was reading.

Could be a voltage incompatibility between the PSU and motherboard but I don't know much about this.

Let us know how it goes.

Well when I bought he new power supply I switched the voltage on the back and that must have casued the fire. I'm not sure if the motherboard was bad before but it is NOW. Got a new one on the way.
