    Raid 0

    Hi everyone,
I have a WD2500JD in my machine and intent to buy another one to setup a raid 0 array (excuse my poor terminology). My question is will I need to format the existing drive to do this or is there another way? It holds all my system and personal files and is a hell of a lot to lose and I don't have enough backup options to save all of it. Can I just tell the new drive to 'stripe' with the new one in disk management? If so will it copy 'half' of whats already on my disk to the new one?
    Thanks for any help.

if you want to use Raid 0 have a read

    http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/perf/...eLevel0-c.html

    but as it says

Special Considerations: Using a RAID 0 array without backing up any changes made to its data at least daily is a loud statement that that data is not important to you.

Woah is it that unstable? Is it worth the extra performance? I may as well just have 2 250 gig independant drives and not worry about it failing, which judging from that statement is an inevitability.

Thanks for the link I'll have a read.

I haven't got a hardware RAID controller on my motherboard so it seems pretty pointless, the main reason I wanted it was because I wanted 1 big drive as opposed to 2 small drives, so I wouldn't have to copy data between the two, unless theres another way to achieve this?
