Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me what is the highest Athlon cpu I can fit onto my Asus A7A133 motherboard. I have a 5 year old system with a 1.0Ghz AMD Duron cpu on the said mobo, and I need more speed to cope with the stuff I do now, like video editing, tv card on while browsing the web, and other general stuff, but no gaming.
As I am not all that much of a techi, would the new cpu be just a case of 'plug n play', or is it not so straightforward as that?
My system -
Windows XP Home
40gb IDE Maxtor Hard Drive
512mb RAM
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
Brian
I think the board may only go up to about a 1.4 adding more RAM will help speed up the PC a little
Thanks BD
Is there any way of assessing what difference that extra 0.4 would make to performance? One thing I notice with the speed of the 1.0 cpu is that when I have the TV card on while I'm doing other things, the sound and picture start going out of sinc. I guess, if I'm limited to 1.4 on the cpu, then uping the RAM to 768 would be the best I can do. What do you recon?
Brian
it will take Maximum memory size of 3 GB
Okay, thanks for the help. I'll try out your suggestions.Originally Posted by brain_damage
I guess if it's still not fast enough, is the only other option a more up-to-date motherboard + cpu? Obviously there's a lot more involved here I guess.
Thanks
