    Compaq Presario 5000 upgrade

Hello I have a 5000 model number 5wv295 and would like to give it to my children for gaming and school work. I am not very wise to the computer world but I understand the basics. It still has the original memory. I have put a new power supply and my hard drive crashed so that was replaced also. Sure could use the advice. Thanks...

Run the DAL Hardware scan so we can see what's in there:

Also what in particular are you thinking of upgrading? Graphics? RAM? What is the Operating System? Do you want to upgrade that?

JR Ribera, you might be surprised how good those kids' PCs need to be! It's a reasonable assumption that an old PC could be recycled into a perfectly adequate PC for desktop applications, e.g. Word / Excel and games because "it's only for the kids". On the Word and Excel stuff, that's normally true but games even for very young children are pretty demanding and old PCs normally need to be upgraded in the graphics card and memory (RAM) areas as Jephree suggested. But run the Online Hardware Scan and we'll be able to advise you on the potential of your specific system

Might also help to know how old the kids are so that we can gauge how high-tech their games would be!
