    Help Choose Best Upgrades! Please

    Hey,

    Well i finally get to purchase new computer upgrades so I need some quick tips on what to use.. here are my intel and amd setups under $400.

    Im mainly looking for good gaming graphics for under $400 cause thats all i have.

    Please note that I already have a HDD, Vid Card, Burner, Floppy, and OS.
    Also note I do all my computer shopping at NewEgg and all of this is Retail.
    All of this has no mismatched sockets or anything, everythig will work together.

    AMD Athlon Setup - $395

    Athlon 64 3200 - $205.00
    Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR Mobo - $95
    Corsair 512MB DDR333 - $70
    400Watt ATX Mid Tower (1 Fan)- $25


    Intel P4 Setup - $388

    Intel P4 2.4 w/ Hyperthreading - $155
    Asus P4P800-SE Mobo - $89
    Kingston HyperX 512MB DDR333 - $98
    420Watt ATX Mid Tower (3 Fans) - $46

    Well I'm an Intel man personally, partly because I disapprove of AMD's speed rating system, which always confuses people. However, if you can get a 64-bit Athlon for the same money as a 32-bit Pentium4, then at least the AMD will be a bit more 'future-proof'.

    The AMD option is going to be vastly superior, especially for games. It does depend on what GFX card you have though because with a CPU that fast you are going to find the GFX the choke on games. You'll need a Radeon 9800 Pro/Nvidia 5x series at least.
