    GA-8I915P Duo Pro

I have recently purchased the GA-8I915P Duo Pro with 2 x 512MB DDR II Kingston memory modules.
As you may know, the mobo supports both DDR I and DDR II memory, not both at the one time.
So when putting in the 2 x 512 533mhz memory modules, the board won't boot up. I get a bit of a weird clunking sound from the main IDE DVD-ROM and no visual display.
It boots fine in single channel RAM, but with the second stick in there, i get no love.
The RTFM says a special not regarding 600mhz RAM, i have tweaked these OC settings in the BIOS with many combinations, again with no love.
I thought it was a faulty DIMM slot, and have returned 2 boards already to the store. so - chances say its not a third faulty board.
Any help would be appreciated, and if all goes well - im surely donating a fair sum of cash to this site - i have already seen several resolved cases in these forums and you guys look awesome, you surely know your stuff.
    Please help a brother out!
    Kind Regards,
    Shane.B.

    Since you have RTFM
    http://america.giga-byte.com/MotherB...duo(pro)_e.pdf
I don't know if I can add anything except to ask if you checked all combinations of RAM & slots?

For example: Stick 1 works in DDRII_1 ...yes?
Will Stick 1 also work alone in DDRII_2 ...?

Will Stick 2 work alone in either DDRII slots?

If both slots & both sticks appear to be functional then how about trying:

    Stick 1 in Slot 1: 2 in 2 then 2 in 1 with 1 in 2 ...?

Also is the Voltage right? Supports 1.8V DDR II DIMM

There will be some more knowledgable blokes about shortly ... just thought I'd pass this on fwiw.

    GA-8I915P Duo Pro

    http://america.giga-byte.com/MotherB...duo(pro)_e.pdf

Memory .. 2 DDR DIMM memory slots (supports up to 4GB memory) (Note 1)
    .. Supports 2.5V DDR DIMM
.. Supports dual channel DDR 400/333 DIMM
.. 2 DDR II DIMM memory slots (supports up to 4GB memory) (Note 1)
.. Supports 1.8V DDR II DIMM
.. Supports dual channel DDR II 600(Note 2)/533/400 DIMM
(Note: Mixed mode, populating DDR and DDR II memory modules
    simultaneously is not supported.)

(Note 1) Due to standard PC architecture, a certain amount of memory is reserved for system usage and
therefore the actual memory size is less than the stated amount.
For example, 4 GB of memory size will instead be shown as 3.xxGB memory during system startup.
(Note 2) To use a DDRII 600 memory module on the motherboard, you must install an 800MHz FSB
    processor and overclock in BIOS.

    Dual Channel DDR/DDR II
GA-8I915P Duo (Pro) supports the Dual Channel Technology. After operating the Dual Channel Technology,
the bandwidth of Memory Bus will add double up to 6.4GB/s(DDR) ; 8.5GB(DDRII)
GA-8I915P Duo (Pro) includes 4 DIMM sockets, and each Channel has two DIMM sockets as following:
    Channel A : DDR 1 or Channel A : DDR II 1
    Channel B : DDR 2 Channel B : DDR II 2
If you want to operate the Dual Channel Technology, please note the following explanations due
to the limitation of Intel chipset specifications.
    1. One DDR/DDR II memory module is installed: The Dual Channel Technology can't operate
when only one DDR/DDR II memory module is installed.
    2. Two DDR/DDR II memory modules are installed (the same memory size and type): The Dual
Channel Technology will operate when two memory modules are inserted individually into
Channel A and B. If you install two memory modules in the same channel, the Dual Channel
    Technology will not operate.
We'll strongly recommend our user to slot two DDR/DDR II memory modules into the DIMMs with the same
color in order for Dual Channel Technology to work.
The following table is for Dual Channel Technology combination: (DS: Double Side, SS: Single Side)
    2 memory modules
    DDR 1 DDR 2
    DS/SS DS/SS
    2 memory modules
DDR II 1 DDR II 2
    DS/SS DS/SS
    OR
Note:Mixed mode, populating DDR and DDR II memory modules simultaneously is not supported.

    hi
i have the same board and my memory only works in banks 2 and 4

not much info but it may help

Just for a little clarification, looking down on the board from left (CPU side) to right, there are 4 DIMM slots. 1 = yellow DDR II, 2 = orange DDR I, 3 = yellow DDR II, 4 = orange DDR I.

I have tried the combination of swapping RAM to elimate the faulty RAM aspect, i have also got a hold of DDR I RAM and tried this in slot # 2 = works fine, putting a second module in slot # 4 - no good.

I have confirmed that both modules work but doing the single channel configuration with only one module.

I have tried in the OC settings in the BIOS changing it from auto - which picks up the voltage and translates to 533mhz, i have manually set it to 2.66 which then translates to 533mhz. I also tried OC it to 3.0 which = 600mhz, still no good.
Are you suggesting jephree that i change it to 1.8v?

Hope to hear from you shortly guys. Cheers for the help so far, VERY prompt indeed.

    Just a quick additional post:

To answer the querstion regarding trying the working RAM in DDR II slot # 2 - no, it doesn't work. Im assuming this is due to the design of the mobo, if only one stick is used, it should go in the first available slot.
But, yes it doesn't work in DDRII_2 - and if it should, maybe i do have a third faulty mobo in a row....what are the odds i rekon?

As to volatge I was only noticing the difference:

    .. Supports 2.5V DDR DIMM

.. Supports 1.8V DDR II DIMM

If I am following you I also find it curious whether DDR or DDR II you can only use one stick?

Are you sure that the RAM is identical? Single Sided & or Double Sided?

As to the latter post: I've never known the slot to matter if the RAM & slot are good.

Can you also try this with the DDR RAM? Does it work the same?

I am getting the sence of some problem with the dual technology & or settings.

I am also way out of my depth here ... As said; someone more knowledgable should be about shortly.

So, Im assuming these mythical 'experts' haven't arrived as yet?
Maybe their unicorns got lost on the way to the office.

Oh well, looks like I might have to just stick with Single channel RAM on this board.
Pitty I had the PAYPAL transfer waiting for me to hit 'transfer'.

Thanks anyway for your effort in assisting me jephree.

    Peace Out.
