accessing internet without a hard drive

Is it possible to access the internet without having a hard drive on my laptop?
I have been told that via networking I can access the internet. I will be using a cable to connect a Dell Desktop OS XP Home version & (not yet purchased) IBM laptop without a hard drive but a cd-rom.

The internet is my main objective.

Any assistance you may be able to give will be greatly appreciated.

Linux has different flavors of 1 CD OS that can get you on the Internet. Go to Linux.org and look for 1 disk solutions in the download area.

    Hello,

Could you tell me if I can burn (or copy) the Knopix ISO to a USB and run the OS in my machine?

    Thank you,

If your question is can you boot off of a USB drive this depends on your specific computer.

Do you not have a CD drive inside the computer?

If so just set the BIOS Setup to boot the CD drive prior to the Hard Disk Drive.
