how to properly install win xp
hi all
hope u can help, i had windows 98 on my pc but my boyfriend put win xp on it for me and it worked fine, but i had a small hard drive and he said he would upgrade it for me, so thinking it wouldnt be much of a prob i let him
he was goimg to put his hard drive from his pc on to mine but when he done this there was a lot of probs
he said he could fix it by reinstalling win xp
the computer we have is a compaq, pentium 2 with 256 mb memory, its a 40 gb hard drive and were trying to put on win xp service pack 2
the boot order is 1. cd 2. hard drive, 3 floppy
when he tried to format the pc it gives him the following
the cd goes to work and it asks which way u want to format it.
format the partition using ntfs (quick)
format the partition using fat (quick
format the partition using ntfs
format the partition using fat
the first time he picked ntfs (full not quick), so the pc formated and then copied the files but then it restarted
got the msg:
1st: attempting boot from cd-rom
then after about 20 secs: press any key to boot from cd rom
- and it just stays there
if the cd is out and the pc is restarted it says
1st: attempting boot from cd-rom
then after about 20 secs: attempting boot from hard drive (c
- and just stays there
so what we did was try to put the cd in again and format it in the "fat" partition
but after it formats and copies the files and restarts
it comes up
attempting boot from cd-rom
then after about 20 secs: NTLDR is missing - and just stays there
can someone please help as i have no idea what to do and nether does he
thanks x
