Can you clarify what you have and what you are considering?

    You want to get:

    2X 512MB 3200DDR?

    What do you have now?

Are you sure that the RAM is compatible with your board?

Here is a good check/scan for compatibility:

    Would going from:

    2 X 256 2100 to 1 X 512 3200 make a big difference?

Probably not ... doubt that you would notice it.

Alot depends on what you do with the machine. Taking it up to 2 X 512 3200 might be noticable in high end games & or video editing etc.

The speed of the processor is perhaps the most important speed ... as well as the speed of the hard drive.

The upgrade would be nice but I doubt if you would notice it unless you went to 2 X 512.

I agree with Jephree. RAM upgrades can be VERY beneficial .... but only if your system is already using up all of the RAM that is currently fitted and actually NEEDS more. Otherwise, it's a waste of time. Kind of like fitting a turbo onto your car when you've just had put a big fence across the end of your driveway - if you aren't pushing your system to the limit now, why bother giving it more potential?!

But, if you've got evidence that your system is using up all of its 512Mb RAM at the moment, then fitting 1Gb RAM (regardless of whether it's PC2100 (DDR266) or PC3200 (DDR400)) will make it better.
