Replace the DVD drive in a Acer Laptop

How do I change the DVD drive in a Acer Laptop. It only writes CD/reads DVD. I want to Read/Write DVD.
I would be very gratefull for any input.

What model of Acer laptop do you have Satsam?

The easiest way, of course, is to buy an external DVD-writer, then you don't have to alter anything in the laptop itself. It might even be cheaper. You also get the benefit of being able to record from a DVD that's playing in the laptop straight onto a blank DVD that's in the external recorder.

Thanks DJNafey, I thought about an external drive but thought it might of been cheeper fitting an internal one, but thanks again for your input. The Laptop belongs to my grandson who is in Germany so I will contact him and get all the detail from him.

I don't know what prices are like in Germany but I've got the latest 16-speed external DVD-rewriters available at £89.99. Delivery within the UK would only be £7.95 but it would be £29.99 to Germany.

From looking at Acer's web site (Click HERE for Acer notebook accessories web page), it appears that they don't actually make any internal DVD-writer drives
