Question could anyone explain how memory upgrades work?

hi folks i have an old pc with 128mb memory and i have a new one with 128 memory is it possible to put the 128 out of the old one into the new one to make it 256? the old one has 2 slots for the memory so im assuming the new one has to? the memory sticks are exactly the same i know that much. i might be totally confused about how memory upgrades work im not sure also would an nvidia 3d graphics card go in without a problem?? any help would be great thanks guys

    compaq presario 5000 (p.o.s)
    1.3ghz AMD athlon processor
    128MB syncDRAM total sys mem
    40gb ultra dma hard drive

"the memory sticks are exactly the same i know that much"

If so, then you can use the memory in the "new" system. (Even if they weren't it would probably work in todays newer motherboards but it's a good idea to "pair" them up for timing etc. This is a different issue though.)

    As Dan Penny pointed out:

If the RAM is exactly the same there is no problem.

    As to your Graphics Card:

This is from Compaq Re: Presario 5000

Many HP and Compaq PCs do not have an AGP or PCI Express (PCIe) slot on the motherboard. Visually inspect the motherboard or refer to the product specifications for your model before attempting to install an AGP or PCIe video card.

Many HP and Compaq PCs have video on the motherboard. Check the specifications of your model to determine if you have a video card as onboard video should be disabled in the BIOS to avoid installation issues on some models.
