motherboard/CPU
I just bought a new CPU an Intel 3.0ghz 800mhzFSB Hyper Threading and my old cpu was 2.5ghz 533mhzFSB. When i put the new CPU in, it doesnt sink in smoothly, it is 478pins which is correct for the mobo, but when its layed over the socket the corners kinda wobble and you have to push it in so it snugs in. When i turn on the computer nothing happens, the power supply runs, the cpu fan doesnt turn only for a second when the computer is turned off. I don't think my motherboard can handle this new CPU. it is a VG31

What is the make of you MB?

If its a FIC VG31, I have looked at their website for any information. Unfortunately I can not get to their manuals for this board. here is a link if you can.

I suspect it can not only from the way the MB is acting. You may need to update the bios or get a different MB. Had a similar problem with a P4 2.8 G model processor and the Asus P4S8X-X versus the P4V8X-X. MB would not power up and give beep codes, it would just sit like a lump of silicon.

Im going to get another motherboard. one that supports hyper threading and 800FSB. my motherboard doesnt beep or anything. but just wondering, how would i update the bios?
-
Put the old Proc back in and then update that way...unfortunately I dont think that will work. Since I wasnt even able to get the manuals I dont know if I could get he bios!

If there is a new BIOS, you should be able to get it as a download from the FIC web site. Each BIOS has different instructions but there should be appropriate instructions on the site.

well i got a new motherboard for my new cpu. and cleared the CMOS before i did anything(thats wut the manual said). and put it back on the little cap. i still dont have everything hooked onto the mother board. just the LEDS.i have my 9800pro video card in now; its fan goes right over my USB 2 and 3 might not be able to squeeze them in. i also have integrated graphics, but sometimes the screen went all fuzzy..not sure if i had everything hooked up right . and i have HP OUT HP IN HP OUT stuff left out. the motherboards manual doesnt say anything about those hp outs/in. but right now my computer loads up. primary master is hard drive. and secondary's are DVD and CD ROM. it finds them in the CMOS and just when it loads and then it says it cant find Master CH00 Master CH01 or somthing like that and i click F2 and it takes me to raid bios and says master ch00 not found. it should show my hard drive there but it doesnt. if i let it run through it says sorry theres been an error with windows bla bla and click to go safe mode, start windows normally or last known good configuration.

Reason: errors and forgotten info

Because your new motherboard will require so many different drivers, changing your motherboard often means that your existing Windows installation won't be able to load up and will need to be wiped and re-installed.
Regarding the USB connectors, try connecting your USB plugs before inserting the graphics card.
To resolve the problem of the error message saying that your hard drive can't be detected, go into the BIOS setup screen (there will be instructions in the manual) and disable the RAID control if you're not intending to use it. If that doesn't help, follow the link in my signature for instructions on auto-detecting and setting the IDE drive parameters, if you haven't already done this.

Usually if you get CH00 CH01 its because you have Raid turned on in the SATA connections (SATA use CH00 and CH01) but you do not have any SATA drives connected...this is a warning, not a critical err. Where your ATA Drive should show is in the normal Bios (and it sounds like it did otherwise you would not have gotten very far like asking for Safe Mode or Last Known Good)
Also, this sounds like an NT Based system and DJ is right, it wont boot since it is imprinted with the previous MB resources and those are set at install. (PIIX, North Bridge/South Bridge drivers, Etc.)

u dont mean wipe out the hard drive do u? i cant find anything in the CMOS to disable raid. i put in my restore disk and windows xp and it doesnt load it. first screen it shows all the devices..not there names though. and it goes then it says masterch00 and 01 no device found press F2 and takes me to raid bios and to create arrays for a hard drive through a controller and theres no drives found in there. how would i even reformat the hard drive when it doesnt load it.
