I expect this has been asked before but does anyone know where to obtain an INTERNAL minidisc drive to fit in a pc?
    Also has anyone done this?
    THANKS!

A "minidisc" drive meaning a drive that will accept music Minidiscs? If that's what you mean then, no, I don't think anyone has asked this before! I'd be very surprised if someone made an internal one of those for a PC.

Actually.. There was, for a while, a few places where one could buy such a Drive. But for the life of me.. i can not find anywhere at the moment...
But.. at one time... One could buy a Mini Disc Drive, Internal, for a PC Computer...
I am looking to buy one now...

Is that possible to take the actual disc from the plastic minidisc "case"? If yes then maybe we can try inserting it into the regular CD-ROM, since standard trays support two sizes of discs? Just don't laugh! My abstract thinking saved me many times so maybe we can "figure it out" without spending £400?

Hi... I am new to this forum game but i have input. I saw a minidisc drive for a pc about 6 years ago and it was $1000 us. I understood that it was used for dental photos and this was before they released the data oriented devices to the public. It is my firm belief that the technology is so up there that it is what blu ray is based on. Minidisc tech is still in our face, it is being with-held as all major breakthoughs they want to control..... Has anyone tried to put the drive in a casing and connect to a pc? I want a md drive.

Just seen this.. I know its old, but if what I say will help people googling, its worth it

No one try this method While abstract thinking is great, this time its got a few flaws..

    1) The size of the disc inside the minidisc casing is not the same size as the 8cm slot on a drive...
    2) The hole sizes are different, so the spindle for turning CDs wouldnt fit in the minidisc hole..
    3) And MOST IMPORTANTLY, Minidiscs use a different technology to CDs Minidiscs are opto-magnetic, while CDs are purely optical.

It was a good thought, but I'm saying this so no one trys this and ruins a minidisc, or even worse, their disc drive

Would I also be right in saying that the Hi-MD technology is found in UMDs... So sony havent scrapped the technology (which was, might I add, brilliant!)

    Anyway, hope this helps

Look for an old Sony Viao (sp) desktop PC. They were installed in those around the turn of the century and sold in the US. I'm looking for one myself. There are plenty of external ones for sale that come with a USB for this purpose, also.
