Which New PC
Alright, I have an unfixable motherboard short causing all kinds of problems with my PC. I want a new one. The problem is which ONE? This is what I have now...
AMD 700 MHz procesor
128 meg ram
DVD drive
4X cd/rw
3dfx video card
Aureal vortex sound card
20 gig HD.
This system does everything I want it to. I rip and burn cd's fine, but slow. If I want to step up to DVD burning, how much/ which processor do I need?
Will a Celeron be okay? I realize that I am going to get a bigger HD, more memory (possibly 512meg)
I am not a gamer, don't think I will be a film editor, either. I just want to maybe transfer some videotapes to DVD, surf the 'net, download tunes, and play some old games that run fine on my present machine.
I do not care whether its AMD or Intel. I just want to burn a CD in less than 45 minutes!!!
Thoughts?

Any budget PC with a Current CD-RW burner will do just fine for you. Celeron 2.4 or AMD 2800+ (give or take on the numbers) with 512meg Ram and a cheap ATI or nVidia will do you. I'm in the US so thats about a $500-600 PC. I recently bought a LG CDRW for 27 US$ which burns at about 52x when she's doing a whole disk...takes about 5 min with 300 to 400meg. I normally burn about 4 PDFs a day at 180 meg and it takes about a minute. I have a Plextor DVD+R/RW at home and its not as fast as my CDRW at work. I also have bought and built computers for my work. Bare bones P4 2.6 with 40gig HDs and 512 ram with an ATI w/128 was about 650 US$. This did not include a monitor but did include XP Pro, KB and Mouse in the price.

I am in the US too. Thanks for the info. I ended up with a Dell a neighbor had. Its a 1.5 Gig P4 with one Gig of RAM, 8x burner, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, whole nine yards for $200.00. That will hold me for now. Thanks.
