Hello all. I seem to be having a power problem with my pc and i hope maybe you can help. I've just built a new pc, amd sempron2200 chip, msrock k7 upgrade 600 mobo , hercules graphcs card(old), 512 dimm ram. Put it all together and plugged it in. I got a crackle as i plugged in and when i turned it on it went bang with a nice puff of smoke. Now the cable is buggered. I've got a replacement now but when i plug it in it is crackling again. I don't want to turn it on in case it goes bang again. Any ideas as to why it's doing this? Thanks. Maxx

Pull off all your addons. Vidoe, Memory, Drives. No MB should "Crackle" when the power plug is put to the MB. You have a short either on the mounting to the MB or a card/cable that is shorted in its socket. Another point of advise, do not have the PSU plugged into the wall when plugging it into the motherboard.
