    memory upgrade problems

    I have just replaced my 128 mb 133mhz memory chip with a 256 mb chip and am having some instability problems. Sometimes I get a blue screen flash up quickly followed by a message saying a problem has occured and asking if I want to boot up in normal or safe mode. I can load normally from here. There are other occasional problems. Is this a problem with my BIOS? Can you help?

    I have windows XP , Intel D815E motherboard, PentiumIII 866,
    In Bios it says EA81520A.86A.0006.PO3 against BIOS type

    It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module be compatible
    with both the motherboard and any other RAM module(s) in the system.
    Additionally, there are sometimes jumper switches on older
    motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM configuration.
    Consult your motherboard's manual.
