I'm a novice so bear with me.

(1)Can I add hard disk directly into my IBM Netvista or do I need to attach an external drive. If so, any reccomendations (cheap is good).

(2) I have 256 MB DIMM in my machine (and a spare one still in its box). How do I work out how many 'slots' I have for memory (ie can I add this 3rd DIMM)?

Your Netvista PC has 2 memory modules (according to IBM's documentation here: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/search....11&search.y=13) so there's nowhere for a 3rd module to fit. The system will accept up to 2Gb of memory so you could remove one of the existing modules and buy a bigger one if you really wanted to increase the amount of RAM but there would obviously be some cost to that. It should be very straightforward to change the RAM - that web site link that I gave includes video footage showing you how to do it!

It appears that your Netvista is a "mini-tower" configuration - a nice small compact system case that, as a consequence of its small size, doesn't have much room to fit extra stuff inside. According to this IBM documentation and diagram (http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview...&cc=us&lang=en), you can fit a second hard disk just below the CDROM drive (as long as you don't have another drive already fitted directly below the CD) but you'll need to buy a 3.5" to 5.25" adaptor bracket.
