Problem with Motherboard install
I'm on about my fifth try with this box and it is frustrating me to no end.
I had problems when I tried to move a hard drive from one PC to another and that was answered. See the thread below this with my ID.
So now I'm trying to do what they suggested. I installed the motherboard, cards, hard drive, other hardware, turned the power on and before anything could happen, I got a beep, sustained for about two seconds. It kept beeping every three or four seconds until I turned the PC off. I carefully checked everything that was installed to make sure it was seated correctly. I removed one board at a time, one drive at a time, and turned the PC on in between. The beeping continued after each item was uninstalled. I even removed the memory chip. Still beeping.
Any speculation as to what could be wrong?
I'm about ready to break down and take the board to a local store for help. I don't want to but I'm running out of answers.
Thanks.

Can you identify the board & also the BIOS?

The motherboard is a Biostar "M7VIB", Phoenix bios. Numbers on the bios chip are D686 and a serial number.
The thing about all this is that I had this motherboard with this hard drive and these boards in the box, working, albeit with the error that I worked with you on, but there was no beeping until I was getting ready to do the repair. Then the darn thing starts beeping. The only thing I can think of, and this is pure speculation, is that I added a fan and heat sink to the motherboard to replace a fan that was inoperable. But I can't see how this could be a problem.

the phoenix bios has beep codes as seen here:

Do you have any LED indicators?
red light? green light? amber?
are you sure the processor is seated correctly?
did you mean you added a heat sink & fan to the processor?

No lights. It doesn't get far enough to give any sort of indication. It just starts beeping and continues until I physically turn off the power supply.
I looked at the bios beep codes. The power supply works. I removed the memory chip from the board and the beeping continues.
I added a heat sink over a chip that is fused onto the motherboard. I didn't touch the CPU or the fan that powers it. Maybe you can tell what the chip is underneath. Specs and a picture are at the following URL.

The fan that I replaced is clearly shown in the picture. I can't understand why installing a new fan would cause a problem unless I accidentally scraped something on the circuitry of the motherboard removed the old fan or installing the new one.
I'm ready to take it to a local shop to see what they think it is.
Let me know what you think. Thank you for your help.
