Memory upgrades
i am thinking of getting a memory upgrade for my brand new HP. I have 448MB ram in there now (512 stick), and only one slot left. Im deciding wether to buy another 256 or 512 stick (DDR2700). I want to use this computer as a gaming computer, and i like fast computers. I plan to upgrade from integrated graphics to a Geforce 5700, or ATI 9600XT.
ALSO, another question, I have a wireless network, and i was wondering if i should buy a Directional Antenna that boosts the Router from 2dB to 8dB. $50 CAD. And i cant seem to remove the antenna that is on my router now, does it come off?.
NETGEAR 54Mbps WGR614 CN
AMD athlon 3000+
512MB DDR2700
80 GB HD

If you wanna make this system into a gaming PC first check to make sure your main board has an AGP slot for graphics card upgrades before you start throwing money at it. Also make sure theirs an option in the BIOS to disable the on-board crap. Then buy something like a 9800 Pro and upgrade the memory with another 512MB. Then you’ll just about have a entry level gaming system…anything less would be outdated within 3 months and a complete waste of your time.
Sorry but I can’t help with the second question.

ok, first off, i will never ever buy a computer without a AGP slot. That is a waste of money right there. And i already know what kind o0f ram im going to get if i upgrade, which would be the 512 stick DDR2700, non-ecc. And the ATI 9800 pro, i dont think ATI is the best, i like Nvidia they seem to have good stuff. (FX5900 maybe, or the 5700 with 256MB DDR). The BIOS should have a setting to diable onboard graphics or the AGP slot on the mobo wouldnt be there. Hmmmm... I dont want to spend an huge amount on my computer, but i do want a nice machine. I have already bought a wireless network for it, and want to buy a directional antenna, (but the router i bought, the antenna does not come off, i have found by pulling to hard on it). I'm waiting till march when ill have about $400 CAD to spend on the RAM, and Video card. (I kinda wanted a nice office chair to go along with it too
)
Thanks for the Help!,, Crucial does have nice DDR, but maybe Ultra, or Kingston would be fine. To me most ram is the same, i just look at the price, and warrenty (most have lifetime).
