clone drive / new drive needs add on card
ok basicly here is whats going on
my brother just bought a new 240G dma 133 drive , he wants to replace the old 80G dma100 drive in his system .. he has a copy of ghost , so far no problem.
except , his MB only does dma100 , but the HD came with a sata/dma133 pci card ... now if he was installing a brand new copy of xp he would need to hit F6 during the install to install the drivers .. but he's not , he's trying to clone the old drive ( yep the root "c" drive of xp ) onto the new ...
i told him he will save himself a TON of headaches not useing the card and just running the thing off the bios at dma100 , but i figure their should be a way of doing it with the card ...
is their a way to clone the drive , then MANUALY stick the drivers in the xp on the new hd before switching it over to be the master , or will a XP "repair" work off the cd ( hitting f6 when needed ) ...
the main thing is that he has a fairly old xp cd and would need to do a ton of downloads to get up to speed not to mention the loads and loads of programs that have been installed and tweaked to work just right his system ... i woudnt want to do a full re-install and i do it all the time , just never needed to clone a drive onto one that req. a driver ( i'm guess this will become common as more and more people buy sata's with adaptors )
