    Need Some Quick Help

    Hello.

Ok check it out, im building my new system finally and need some quick answers.

#1 - i installed my mobo, but wasnt able to use standoffs because than the mobo wouldnt lign up with the backplate. Is this gonna ruin my mobo? it installed onto a metal mobo tray looking thing with cutouts to keep airflow.

#2 - is it better to use IDE Channel 1 as my DVDRW/HD and than IDE Channel 2 for my floppy.. or using Ide channel 1 optical as master, floppy as slave and than sata for my hd?

#3 - when using sata for my hd, do i need to have the jumper on the master?

#4 - i really need help learning how to hook up my lcd temp monitor lol.

ill throw in some more stuff later as i go along.

    1. I definitely wouldn't power up a motherboard that was screwed tightly onto the tray so that all of the contacts on the back were touching the tray. I would expect that that would cause it to short out.

    2. Floppy drives don't use IDE primary or secondary channels - they have a smaller cable that goes into a third connector on the motherboard, running from a different controller on the motherboard. That leaves IDE primary and secondary for 4 other devices. IDE hard drives must always be primary master. If you only have one other device (your DVDRW), make that the secondary master as this will run faster than primary slave. No idea about SATA I'm afraid.

    3. I would expect so but never used SATA - the hard disk manufacturer's web site should contain advice on configuration.

    4. Do a search on Google for "PC case modding" - there's quite a few sites now dedicated to customising your PC with extra bits and they have lots of articles about this kind of thing.

Sorry it wasn't that quick but I hope that helps you in the right direction

DJ - there are open pockets on the tray, where there are cutouts so only a few peices of the board are touching the whole time. that is the part where the screwes are put in.

and the secound part, im using sata for my hdd if i can figure out how if not that primary IDE channel 1 for hdd and than primary secoundary channel IDE 2 for my burner. which should be a great setup.

Yeah but I'd be concerned about the soldered connections on the back of the motherboard shorting out on the metal around the bits where it does touch.

yes i would too but i was told it shouldnt be a problem, if it becomes one, ill change cases.... >_< which i dont want to do.. lol anyways got another questions for you.

When connecting fans, do you have to connect both the female and male connectors or just one of them? and for the HDD, CD Rom, Floppy, do i connect a pwrs connector to each?

Hard disk, CDROM, etc will all need their own power connection. The floppy drive will have a power connection of a different type to the others but they all come out of the same wiring loom that comes out of the power supply in the case.

Not too sure what you mean about the fan. I've only used PSU fans that have a positive and negative wire terminated into a small plug that you then connect to the socket on the motherboard.

well i have 5 fans in my system, 1 for my cpu which is connected to the mobo, another one which is again connected to the mobo and than 3 more that have connections like a hdd or cdrom. the have the 5-7 pin connector, one which is considered female and the other male. just wonderin if i have to connect both.
