    How old is the motherboard? Mine came with a booklet with diagrams showing me where to connect devices.

    Intel® SR440BX Motherboard Connectors

    Usualy the DVD/CD would be the secondary master.
    Your hard drive(s) being on the primary ribbon.

    Is this one drive you are trying to connect? If it's 2 then put the writer as master and the rom as slave.

    If this is three separate optical devices, then put the hard disk on Primary Master and the CD-ROM on Primary Slave, then connect the CD-RW to Secondary Master and the DVD-ROM to Secondary Slave.

    The reasons for this are:

    1. Hard disk has to be primary master to boot from it on most/all PCs;
    2. CD-Writing from the hard disk will be more reliable if they're on separate cables;
    3. CD-RW is on the fastest position (master) of the secondary cable;
    4. When you're watching DVDs, you'll want the DVD-ROM drive on a separate cable to the hard disk for the fastest data transfer.

    Most manuals exist on-line. This was the board diagrams:

    What exact problems are you having? Connecting to the board or connecting on the ribbons? Or?

    As DJNafey asked: is this 3 drives you are connecting? If so follow his directions.

    just to clarify:

    What does not show the bootup screen & says check connection?

    Are you saying that you cannot boot? No BIOS POST? Is "it" the monitor that is looking for a connection? Sorry for my confusion

    yes, but the computer seems to be working except for it doesn't show one of the cd drives in my computer.

    My computer is a pentium 3 450 Mhz
    192 megs of ram
    Lite on CD-rom drive
    Lite on CD-R/RW 12X
    Samsung 12.9 Gig IDE hard drive
    Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 MX 64 MB
    Windows 98 SE

    Do you see all your drives in the BIOS POST?

    Also it might be helpful if you ran this scan and posted the results:
