    clock speeds

I've just added a new motherboard to my pc with with an 2600xp amd chip. The chip was previously in my old computer which had another board that didn't support this part
The chip is in the new motherboard but not running as fast as it should clocking at around 1.26ghz.
    What could be causing this?

    Thanks for the help

AMD's ridiculous and misleading naming conventions?! An AMD Athlon 2600xp processor will NOT run anywhere near 2600MHz. I would have thought that you'd see it at about 1600-2000MHz but I can't claim to know much at all about AMD's to be honest (apart from the old AMD K6/2 processors, which were fantastic, I only ever use Intel CPUs). So the 1260MHz that you reckon you're getting does seem a bit low to me. What were you expecting it to run at?

You say it was in your old PC but the old motherboard didn't support it. So, did it work in your old PC?! If so, how fast was it running in that?

Hello again, must you multi-post the same question?

Anyway, I think DJNafey's underselling AMD chips a bit. From what I remember, my old AMD Athlon XP 2600+ had a clock speed of 2.08ghz and should have an multiplier of 12.5 and a FSB of 333Mhz.
    As I said before...
There will be a switch or jumper that controls the front side bus speed. That's the only reason I can think of unless it's actually running at the correct speed but the BIOS is simply recognising it as a slower chip. Check your motherboard manual for CPU and bus speed set-up, if not update your BIOS version.

    Hope this helps.
