    CD-ROM; not detected

I'am sorta new to the PC World, but here goes. I installed a new motherboard [ms-6540g); new P4>3.2 gHz northwood processor and a new WD hard drive in my HP a410n computer. I kept the existing CD-ROM[LITE-ON LTR 48247S] and the DVD-ROM[HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B]. Thus the problem. Both work fine in the normal mode, however, they are not detected in MS-DOS. Example: I ran sfc /scannow and when Windows requested that I insert my XP PRO CD. Windows did not detect. I had to click retry over and over until the task was complete. I had the same problem once before trying to repair windows. I have used the Disk Manager to change the drive letter for the CD-ROM to (T, but still have the problem. I have tried to find the firmware for both of the above mention drives, but since they are OEM. I have not had any luck. I searched the web and emailed HP, no luck. Can someone please help? Thank You, Larry
