Cant reconize my SATA drive
hello everyone, well i would like to first point out that i am new to the build a pc from scratch club, but i have taken apart several and combined the best parts into my current pc, so i do know some, alright onto my question.
I am building a computer for my dad and after hooking everything up and turning it on, i tried to install WINXP Pro, but the windows setup says there is not hard drive, what can/should i do, i have a GIGABYE GA-7NNXP motherboard and a Maxtor 160 GB SATA drive.
Any idea's or susgestions would be great, thanks
Matt

Hey chief i had the SAME problem and found the solution to be how the BIOS recognizes start up drives. If you go into BIOS look in the boot order and Choose "HardDrive" then go to select the particular drive you want and if SATA does not appear as a choice then WinXP will ignore it everytime. To remedy this you need to manualy set the SATA port to a Free IDE controller (either primary or secondary, which ever ISNT being used by other IDE drives such as CD/DVD roms) Then if you go to install windows xp it should recognize your HD and install normally. Good luck.
P.S. be sure to save changes when exiting BIOS!!
