I am using the latest version of internet explorer with the latest flash and shockwave plugin, but why does IE prohibits the use of active x on some sites? Is there any way to fix this?

Have you allready verified the setting in Internet Explorer?
Go to Tools / Internet Options / Security
Click on custom Level
Maybe there you have some options set to disable in the Active X settings?

What are the sites you refer to? Which active x items are blocked?

Please be very careful with ActiveX. For unsigned controls, I recommend leaving that disabled. ActiveX is exploited very often by Diallers, Spyware and other types of Malware. I recommend you download and install a copy of Javacool's Spyware Blaster (www.spywareblaster.net)
