    red x's instead of pictures

I am having the same problem as posted on another thread - I followed what the reply to the earlier post by katy said - but I still see only red x's...

when i upload new pics on the web - to places like imageshack, yahoo photos, blogger etc, I dont see the new images that i uploaded - i see the older ones alright - i thought it might be an issue with IE so i tried firefox - doesn't show on firefox either...

    please help...

    ------------update---------------
i see all the new and old images on flickr... but not anywhere else
i cleaned the cache, closed ZoneAlarm Pro and even updated the java - i still see only red x's - i am currently designing a website for someone and am unable to proceed because of this - please help me!

    Is this a new problem?
    Have you altered any settings?
    What is your OS?
Added any updates or service packs?

This problem is posted alot; with the most common awnser being to clear cache; configure firewall; browser security settings etc.

    This is the microsoft page:

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer

Here are just a couple google groups searches:

    search 1

    search 2

Sorry I can't be more specific but perhaps this will lead somewhere...

Thanks Jephree - I did the renaming of the HOSTS file, I checked the registry, I visited a dozen (more actually!) other tips and tricks, followed what Microsoft had to say... shut off the firewalls, changed the encoding, changed browser security...
    I still see red X's....

Windows XP, IE 6 - most recent change was the SmartFTP that I downloaded.... the peculiar part is it happens only when I upload pictures - the old ones show but the new ones - the ones uploaded fresh - do a complete no show. When I download the JPG file to the PC - and then open it with the internal viewer - I can see the image - but online I see the red X....

Some time back I tried to update to Service Pack 2 - but it just keeps giving an error (that's an issue for another forum!) - so no updates...

And this is not a new problem - it had happened earlier but it happened with only two images that I uploaded for a client website - I had to ask a friend to see it on his comp and tell me whether the placement was fine...I did not think much of it at that time - it's driving me crazy now!!

Please - please - please - is there something else I can try....

I looked some more - found this post [http://groups.google.com/groups?q=re...ngp09&rnum=16] - (sounds like it might help) - but what's the solution? Since it is happening only with the "new" stuff that I upload... so what do I do with the hosts file?

    Just to clarify:

Your recent uploads to your 'web-albums' are coming up as the dreaded X

Others can see your pics but you can't?

What is SmartFPT? What error did you get from SP2?

I am 'out of my depth' when it comes to like this Host File stuff but here is another group search:

    red x

Also perhaps you might want to post to that group.
    If you have a newsreader:

go to Start > Help & Support
    then
Go to a Windows Web site forum
    Go to Windows Newsgroups
    Windows XP General
    Open with newsreader

    Then Go to:

    microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser

Or you can sign up to go thru google but google is on like a 6-12 hour delay whereas most newsreaders are instant.

hi jephree - yeah I did post to the google group - posted through Google! And it's taking a long time to show up there!

The red X problem - meanwhile - got solved.
Nothing at all to do with Microsoft or IE - it was a Photoshop Issue! Photoshop here is not rendering the JPG's correctly from PSD files. I used Macromedia Fireworks to export the PSD as a JPG and the files uploaded perfectly - visible to everyone including me!

    This was driving me crazy!
I was up whole night - till 4am - finally sorted it out with the help of a friend - over the internet ofcourse - all the way from Australia!

Thank you so much for all your help - much appreciated! Atleast I now know what to do with the red X's - if I get the real ones that is!

    Thank you!

    Warm Regards,
    Naina
