cannot find "page name". Make sure the path or internet address is correct
when I enter for example google.com this message appears:
cannot find "page name". Make sure the path or internet address is correct.
The only way I can get to it is to enter http://www.google.com. This takes time. The other option is to enter google - then control enter. This only works from .com pages. I need help. Thanks,
Mark

just to clarify:
where are you entering (for example) google.com?
in the address bar of IE?
All 3 of your methods work for me.
Was it perhaps a temporary internet problem or does it still occur?
Is this a new problem? Any major changes or settings etc.?
-
The problem still occurs and had done for weeks. I think I must have some bug or I have selection some option.

Try closing IE; then go to start: control panel: internet options: programs: reset web settings: apply. And also under the Advanced tab choose Restore defaults & apply. Then re-boot your puter & see if it works.
-
just tried that and it still happens. I tried to update IE but it I already have the latest even if I try and re-install it.
-
did you actually reinstall IE?
if not here is some good info:
(from kellys-korner)
"What you need to keep in mind, if you use the method described here:
How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
Which can be automated by using this edit:
Enable Reinstallation of Internet Explorer or OE (Line 114)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Is to rename the CatRoot2 (Windows\System32) folder then go to:
Go to Start/Run, and type :
"rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"
And then re-install:
Download Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1

Hello,
I have been having the Exact* same problem that you seem to be having. Internet explorer dosn't seem to be at fault though, because I have re-downloaded it many times using the method suggested above.
IE will not* enter the valid "http" to direct a site entered such as 'www._.com' this causes conflicts with other programs I run and please** can anyone help me? (us) :]
And of course I always get the annoying 'Make sure the path or internet address is correct'
