Yes there is but it involves editing the registry, so lets do it this way. Copy and paste the following text (in red) and paste it into notepad, save the file as Google.reg
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Use Search Asst"="no"
"Search Page"="http://www.google.com"
"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s"
"provider"="gogl"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"
Once you save the file right click on it and choose merge, you will get a message asking are you sure you want to add this bla bla bla to the registry just click yes. Now resart your computer and open IE, Google should now be your default search engine. If you change your mind and don't like the change let me know and we can reverse the changes.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://http://www.google.co.uk//keyword/%s"
"provider"="gogl"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]

Hi there I tried that as you said restarted win xp and pressed the search button on the toolbar I got the following error message:
Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try the following:
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
If you have visited this page previously and you want to view what has been stored on your computer, click File, and then click Work Offline.
For information about offline browsing with Internet Explorer, click the Help menu, and then click Contents and Index.
Internet Explorer
Does that mean it worked and google is down?
BTW can i delete that little thing i saved to the desktop now? or does it need to stay.
