    Some Links Do Not Work

When I am browsing around, I am finding that some links work and some do not. When I R/click and look at the properties of these links I get javascript as well as http protocol that are not working.
Have I got a setting wrong on my PC ?.
I am on XP Pro with Internet Explorer Vers 6.0.2880
Could anybody point me in the direction of the problem.

Can you give some examples of links you are accessing that are not working?

If it is having trouble with java then it may be that you need to install the free java plug-in from http://www.java.com/ (click on the 'get it now' button and follow the instructions)

It could also be due to your security settings in IE that are restricting the use of javascript (tools > internet options > security)

Hi Steve, Thanks for helping me out here. I have just downloaded and installed the Java update from Sun Systems as you suggested. I have also set the IE settings to low. It still is giving the same problems.
As an example :- My Internet Banking site
    http://www.abbey.com/ebanking_home.htm?referer=index
The red log on link will not work but the green "Go" links will work.
Both are Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. The only difference is the size rating. The log on is 516bytes, the "go" links are 322bytes.

When you click on the red 'e-banking log on' does it pop up a windows at all with "Please wait while we confirm your browser security settings ....." or does it not do anything at all ?

I would suggest getting hold of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ and see if you have any luck with that. It is an alternative browser to IE and has a whole host of benefits. It will at least proove if there is a problem with settings in IE or if it is something else such as a firewall/pop-up blocker that is preventing you from viewing some links.

I just tested your link to the banking site and it does pop up in another window. Are you using a pop up stopper? That will stop the page coming up. Another browser that works off IE is Slimbrowser http://www.flashpeak.com/sbrowser/ it overcomes many IE problems and is relatively small and free.

I have done all (I think)
Have tried disabling my Norton AntiSpam inc ad blocking and pop up blocking.
    Even disabled Norton Firewall
Have downloaded both Mozilla and Flashpeak, (definitely keep Flashpeak) tried them both and it is still the same.

When I try the links that don't work, no messages pop up. Just nothing happens.

Something I have noticed that may give some clue. Using the same example (my internet banking site) there are links that do work and links that do not.
At the bottom of the page the link information is displayed when the cursor is placed over a link.
On all the ones that will not work, the information always starts with
    javascript:window.open (https://

On those that will work they do not start this way

Example of one that will not work
    javascript:window.open(https://www.multimap.com/clients/places.cgi?client=abbeynat','BranchLocator','width =655.height=637,top=1

Example of one that will work
    http://www.abbey.com/interest_rates_gen.htm

Does this help to understand whet my problem is.

    Hi Steve,
Apologies for late reply to your question. Required to work away from home.
Both those last links you said to test both work fine.
