Good morning/Good afternoon to the D-A-L community,
One of my relatives, who is 7 miles away from my house, has constantly been having her internet disconnects randomly. I would personally fix it, but I will not be there until Winter Break.
What are ways that my relative could borrow my internet virtually or wirelessly 7 miles away?
That's not really practical and probably not legal. I suggest that they contact their ISP for testing their connection.
Not "probably" - definitely illegal. It is called "theft of services" and no doubt your contract with your ISP makes it clear you are NOT allowed to share (allow someone to borrow) your access with anyone not living at your residence either. Your relative could go to jail and/or be heavily fined for stealing and your service could be terminated on the spot. And if you charged (or simply split the bill), you could be in legal hot water too! What are ways that my relative could borrow my internet virtually or wirelessly 7 miles away?
So your relative needs to figure out where the problem is. If all computers in their house are dropping connections, then look at the modem and their ISP tech support can help with that. If only one computer, if wireless move closer. If wired, change wires and ports.
Beyond that, we need more information about the computer, how connected and type of network.
I thank you guys for your input on this issue because out of the whole D-A-L you are one of the few who always answered my questions.
Now I will probably go to fix their internet soon. I will probably looking into their router and also their DHCP setting. After a recent call, my relative told me that the even with or withour automatic/manual DHCP the connection cannot ping to an IP.
Any suggestions you recommend me to take fix my relative's internet?
