Wireless internet connected, Browsers don't work

    Hi everyone,

I have a Dell 1545 laptop with Vista 6.0.6002 service pack 2 installed. I've been having some computer troubles of late, so I guess I'll start from the beggining,

My computer had been running slow for a day or two, and then I was hacked on an online java based game, which led me to belive I had a virus. Scanning with Panda Global Protection froze on different files everytime, forcing me to reboot. After searching online I downloaded Kaspersky Virus Removal tool. It found 29 threats including a trojan java file which I belived to be the virus I was looking for. However this scan also froze on 30% and I was forced to reboot. On reboot the scan came up clean, however it did say the file was deleted on the previous scan.

My internet continued to run super slow and Panda still couldnt finish scanning, so I continued to try find a fix. I found a folder created by Combofix about a year earlier when I ran it, containing 9.7MB of files. It had some files which I thought were fishy like catchme.cfxxe (or something like that) so I deleted the folder. My computer began to run as it used to. However Panda still couldnt scan, so I uninstalled it and installed the new 2012 Version, it scanned perfectly finding 3 spyware programs. I then ran Malwarebytes and it found nothing.

However when I restarted, my browsers wont work (firefox and explorer). It says im connected on my wireless in the bottom right corner of the screen, and I can still log on to MSN no problems, just the browsers are affected. I have tried the following:

    - disabled all firewalls to no avail
    - uninstalled malwarebytes
    - checked automatically detect settings in my LAN settings in internet options
    - network sharing centre > manage network connectoins > wireless connection > properties
and unchecked Internet protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and set the properties of TCP/IPv4 to automaticlly obtain IP address and auto obtain DNS server address
    - run in cmd prompt:
    netsh winsock reset catalog
    netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

    nothing changed.

    I sent the following Pings:

    PING <computer_IP_address>

    PING <default_gateway_address>

    PING <dns_servers>

    PING 74.125.45.100

    PING yahoo.com

All returned except my DNS server request timed out 4 times (100% loss)

Im not very good with computers and all these solutinos are ones I read other people tried online, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thankyou,
    Olaon

EDIT: one last detail I forgot to mention. When I boot to safe mode with networking, I do not have internet connection at all. Network shows me connected "Local only" to my network, but not to the internet (no world symbol in the bottom right corner). Thanks

    Hi,

Should I restore to yesterday (before my internet troubles began) or all the way to last thursday (when my virus trouble began)?

Since I removed the virus today, is there a chance of undoing that work by restoring to yesterday? (sorry if this is a silly question but like I said im not very good on this topic :P)

    Hi,
I dont a system restore back to the 23rd, which couldnt be completed for some reason, and then to the 21st, which also could not be completed.

I was getting alot of error messages from Panda, as it could not locate any of the old drivers from the 2010 version. I could not uninstall this because it kept saying "setup.exe has stopped working". So I have restored my computer back now.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Olaon
